3 lessons on better utilizing digital signage

Digital signage is a well-known tool, but it is still highly complex and often difficult to manage. There are many moving parts with digital signage, and consistently managing and maintaining those parts can be a major hassle.

Luckily, multiple stories on Digital Signage Today provide some key tips to both help you better handle your digital signage and to better utilize it to its full effectiveness.
Pick a partner, not a supplier

One major problem with many suppliers is that they are only interested in making a sale. Once they sell you the display, media player or software, they leave you to handle the details. This is why end users should look for someone to partner with them, not just supply them with a product, according to a story recently posted on Digital Signage Today.

A vendor who acts as partner will help end users strategize on the best spots to deploy digital signage for maximum effectiveness. They will also help their customers develop strategies for how to manage and update content as well as provide training for employees who need to interact with the displays regularly.

A good way to tell the difference between a supplier and a partner is to talk with their previous customers. Did they work with the customers directly and help them with all their needs or did they sell and run?
Learn from the Burger King

Burger King is well known for innovative products such as its Impossible Whopper, a vegetarian alternative to the Whopper that is supposed to mimic the taste of beef. However, the QSR has also utilized digital signage in a simple, yet effective way that many end users can learn from.

Digital signage does not need to be horribly complicated to be effective, all it needs to do is to deliver content that catches the audience's attention. Burger King does this by using simple unintrusive displays which offer content on the newest products, job offerings, movie trailers, loyalty programs and dynamic temperature and weather updates.

These displays mostly keep the volume down pretty low, only raising the volume during movie trailers, which naturally draw in customer's attention. A display does not have to be loud and in a customer's face all the time to be effective, it just needs to be able to attract their attention at the right time.

2 reasons why digital signage will revolutionize the cannabis industry

Cannabis is rapidly becoming the hottest trend in America, as 11 states have made it fully legal and 22 states have legalized it for medicinal uses. Even in states where cannabis is illegal, the Cannabidiol market, which consists of various oils, gummies and other products without the large amounts of THC, has exploded.

Both CBD and marijuana dispensaries have to handle a large amount of customers every day. While this legal industry is fairly young in the states, digital signage can help it grow up quickly with innovative solutions that will revolutionize the entire industry.
Crafting experiences

Cannabis still has a bit of a seedy reputation due to its questionable legal status, but digital signage can help change that by crafting truly relaxing and immersive environments.

For example, dispensaries can use digital signage to play informative videos talking about the risks and benefits of cannabis products, or to showcase entertaining videos on how to cook with cannabis. A few other examples include:

Delivering interactive kiosks with games customers can play while they wait.
    Playing relaxing music videos.
Featuring digital art from local artists.
Offering instructions on the best ways to use products.

By crafting these immersive environments, cannabis dispensaries can help improve the overall status and "brand image" of the cannabis industry.
Delivering a smoother purchase

The second way digital signage can improve the cannabis industry is by creating a far smoother path to purchase. For example, dispensaries can use menu boards which clearly state the various products, the prices and other nutritional information for the customer.

Since these menu boards are brighter and more engaging than traditional static menus, customers can more quickly scan the menu board to see what they would like to purchase, which can in turn improve wait times.

Cannabis dispensaries can also integrate the menu boards with their other systems, such as their point-of-sale and mobile apps. By integrating their systems, the menu board can automatically update if a product goes out of stock or a new product comes in. This can help prevent an awkward customer service situation where a customer wants a product off the menu board, but the product is no longer in stock.

By using menu boards, cannabis dispensaries can also in turn improve the prestige of their business, by presenting themselves as a bonified technologically savvy industry, rather than a seedy joint.

These are just a few ways dispensaries can use digital signage technology, and as laws loosen, they may be able to use it in other ways, such as interactive DOOH campaigns. Technology has the potential to transform fledgling industries into true powerhouses.

Here are 5 tips for effective video conferencing from the premier provider of cloud based video conferencing service.

Keep the call short and concise. Respect every attendee’s time by keeping the conference short, sweet, and focused. Most people have jam-packed schedules and will appreciate the call not being any longer than necessary.

Come to the conference prepared. Just as you would an in-person meeting, have any supplementary materials prepared ahead of time and sent to whoever is attending the conference. If possible, set the room up ahead of time and test all connections and equipment to avoid unprofessional technical difficulties.

Utilize visuals. Not only do video conferences allow you to see the people you’re talking to, they allow you to share visual aids in real time while you discuss them. This will keep the conference interesting and fresh, rather than just looking at each other’s faces the whole time.
Record the conference. Most video conferencing software allows you to record your conference. This is helpful for creating recaps and action steps, as well as allowing those who could not attend the conference to be brought up to speed easily.

Do you need video conferencing for you and your business?

In today's world, success in a particular area of human activity, be it industry, business, or education, is determined by the speed and quality of communication between people. Sometimes it is suddenly necessary to consult with colleagues, take a collective decision, or simply communicate with family and friends. However, just talking on the phone is not enough. In this case, there are two ways to solve this problem.

The first way is to simply gather everyone in the same room and quietly communicate, but the distance, time, state of health and dozens of other factors do not always allow this.
The second way is to use some kind of telecommunication technical tool, such as video conferencing.
To decide whether video conferencing is needed for you and your business, try answering a few questions.

Want to cut travel expenses?

If, in accordance with the specifics of your business, frequent business trips are necessary to conduct business negotiations, then tangible financial expenses are inevitable: transportation to the destination and back, hotel or hotel accommodation and other unforeseen travel expenses. On the other hand, using video conferencing, you can discuss all the details of your business with a business partner without leaving the office.

Do you need your employees in different places to instantly join working groups for joint discussion?

If your employees are dispersed across different regions of the country and the world, and suddenly there is a need to discuss something “face to face”, video conferencing will allow you to do this easily, quickly and with full confidentiality of the negotiations.

Will your business benefit from the speed of decision making?

Communication with the effect of the presence of all colleagues in the same room, when mimic and other gestures of interlocutors are visible, significantly increases mutual trust, the quality of information transfer and contributes to the speed of joint decision-making.

Want to contact all departments as often as possible?

Employees from remote offices of the enterprise may feel deprived of information from the central office. In this case, frequent videoconferencing will help solve problems, take joint decisions and increase staff morale.

Do your customers and suppliers have a video conferencing system?

Modern standards-based videoconferencing systems are easily integrated with other audio and visual systems. Sometimes to establish a connection is enough to press a button.

Does your business depend on the skill of individual remote experts?

Video conferencing allows you to attract remote employees as a single company resource. Each individual employee can share information with other remote colleagues in the "face to face" mode, increasing labor productivity and saving the company money on the costs associated with office work.

Want to simplify the recruitment of new employees?

If your business needs to recruit employees from various remote regions, a video conference interview will significantly reduce the time and cost of finding the right employees.

Want to conduct training for your employees?

Video conferencing is perfect for conducting various training, consultations, seminars and other educational activities to increase the professionalism of employees. This saves time and money on the periodic collection of all employees at one time and in one place.

Even the most superficial review of the possibilities of using video conferencing shows the advantages of this type of telecommunication in many areas of human activity. In this case, a weighty argument is the saving of effort, time and money to overcome the space-time constraints. And by and large, the environment is preserved due to the reduction in transport movements and the reduction of harmful emissions into the atmosphere.

LED video wall

The LED video wall or LED screen is a direct vision LED display. In it, LEDs are used not as a source of light but as separate elements of a picture (pixels). Previously, manufacturers could not make a matrix with a small pitch of small LEDs, so LED screens were used on large venues, for sports scoreboards, large exhibition displays, concerts where high picture quality is not required. However, to date, manufacturers already offer various versions of LED displays, designed for around-the-clock use in video walls for a more custom format, in control rooms and situational centers. Their main advantage is high image brightness, low noise level, a thinner body, almost no visible seam and greater color uniformity.

To opt for one of the options for the implementation of the video wall, you must first understand whether the benefits from the introduction of the LED video wall overlap the negative aspects, and whether such a video wall will fully meet your objectives.

Pixel pitch

The pixel pitch primarily affects the perception of the displayed content from a specified distance. But it is not unimportant to consider that the pixel pitch of the video wall also affects the amount of information that can be displayed on the screen.
Often the pixel pitch is confused with the screen resolution. The pixel pitch measures the distance between the center points of two adjacent pixels, and the resolution is the total number of pixels in width and height of the screen. If you increase the diagonal of the display, the pixel pitch also increases, provided that the overall screen resolution remains constant.
Acceptable pixel pitch must be in the range of 0.6 to 1.3 mm. If the pixel pitch is too large, the fonts will be read worse, and the amount of information that can be displayed on the video wall will be limited. The pixel pitch may increase so much that viewers will be able to distinguish individual pixels and the space between them, which will adversely affect the ability to perceive information.

Price

On average, when calculating the cost of video walls, it can be assumed that the LED version of a video wall with a step of 1.5 mm costs about three times more than projection cubes of comparable size and brightness. It is also necessary to take into account the complexity of the installation of the LED video wall and, therefore, the cost will be higher than the installation of projection cubes. For mounting the LED screen requires a complex installation design.

Life time

The service life of LED screens is often much shorter compared to the video walls of other performance technologies. For many new models, it is significantly less than 100 thousand hours. For comparison: LED projection cubes are designed for 80-100 thousand hours. In other words, if the panel is designed for 50 thousand hours of work, then a threefold difference in price will actually mean an increase in expenses by 4-6 times.
To date, the LED screen remains a very expensive technology.

Power consumption

Manufacturers of LED displays talk about low power consumption of their devices, but you need to bring everything to a common denominator.
Different levels of brightness can be set on LED screens and projection cubes, so you should compare the same brightness and size. As a result, it turns out that projection cubes consume slightly less energy than LED displays. However, let's not forget that to display the same image, you will need a larger LED video wall. If you use a display with a pixel pitch of 3 mm, you will need 17 times more surface area and about 27 times higher power to display images with the same resolution as on the video cube.

Thus, the energy consumption of LED-systems in comparison with LED projection cubes is still excessively high.

Heat transfer

Heat dissipation affects the size and cost of the required air conditioning installation. When using the LED display on the existing control room, the total amount of generated heat will increase significantly, which will require replacement or upgrading of the cooling equipment. But it is also worth noting that since the LEDs of the LED displays are located on the outside of the screen, they do not need their own ventilation system.

Shell thickness

The undoubted advantage of LED displays is the smaller thickness of the shell when compared with video walls based on projection cubes. However, it should be noted that video cubes usually have front access, while on the LED display market, only models with rear access are being offered, which is why you have to design the mounting frame, taking into account the distance of several tens of centimeters from the wall. Therefore, the installation of these displays requires a distance not less and sometimes more than the width of the video wall based on projection cubes.
Thus, today LED technology has several advantages, however, it is necessary to take into account the calculation of the rationality of the use of such a video wall. It should also be understood for what purposes such a video wall will be primarily useful.
